End of Season Golf 2020 Parents Letter

Good morning ALL Doherty Golfers and your wonderful parents!!!!

As we all know, this season was a very different year than any past years for our Doherty Golfers and their families!!!! I appreciate your patience with all of the changes that we have had to make and the frustration that you feel not being able to attend all of our golf tournaments.  I am very thankful that we were able to have our golf season and did not have any of our tournaments canceled.  I look forward to our next golf season, 2021, knowing that we will not lose any of our golfers due to graduation and we will continue to improve and challenge the other teams for potential state qualifying positions!!!!

A very special thank you to all parents that were able to support us throughout the season.  I realize how difficult it is because of the timing for our tournaments always during the workday!!!  Thank you for your patience with the problems with our entries into Peterson Air Force Base and the additional time required to get to Peterson AFB!!!!!  I also will extend a thank you to the Peterson AFB, Silver Spruce Golf Course for allowing us to practice at their facility.  We do not have many options for a practice facility closer to Doherty High School! We will continue to check into other opportunities for a more easily accessible practice facility.

At the beginning of the season we were told that there would be no banquets or celebrations at the end of the season.  We now can have a short get together at a park to give out their awards and thank our amazing parents for their patience and support this season.  We will meet at 4:30 PM, on OCTOBER 21ST, at Keller Park (the park across from Russell Middle School and across from the Mormon Church).  ALL GOLFERS please wear your team shirts and black slacks or shorts.  Christie Decker will take our Team Picture for the entrance to the main gym wall with the team pictures from this year’s teams.  You will all receive a team picture from me and if you would like to order individual pictures of your golfers please contact Dana Stinson.  Dana has taken many individual pictures of our boys and will make these into a memory mate with the entire team picture!!!!!  Her telephone number is 393-5893.  She will take your orders and will give you all of the information!  She devoted a lot of time all season to provide these pictures!!! Thank you to Dana for all of her support this year!!  She has been the snack and candy queen for the boys all season!  She also has been the master score keeper for our scrambles. Thank you also to everyone that helped transport our boys all season

Last but not least, thank you to all of our coaches!!!  Going to all of the 9 and 18 hole tournaments is impossible for one person-------thank you Coach Smith, Coach Palmer, Coach Keller AND thank you Coach Garcia.    Coach Palmer, I can never express how much you have meant to the Boy’s Golf and Women’s Tennis programs over the years.  Congratulations on your new home in Woodland Park.  Remember that there is always a spot for you on our teams.  Coach Keller, Coach Smith, Coach Garcia and Coach Rogers  will be back next year as our Spartan Golf Coaches!!!!!!! We will have the best team ever next year and hopefully, some State Qualifiers to add to our list of accomplishments.  Thank you wonderful parents for your wonderful support AND your amazing young golfers!!!

Thank you, Cheri Rogers

Please send me a text to let me know that you received this correspondence!!!!!!

Final Schedule for 2020 Golf Season

Good morning Amazing Golfers and Parents!!!!

First of all today, I want each and every one of you to know what a wonderful group of parents, coaches and players we have had to work with this season!!!!! Parents, I know what a pain it has been to drive all the way to Peterson AFB and secondly, the many problems with the gate entrance for the first three weeks of the season.   Your patience was remarkable.  Living through a season with the problems of the limitations posed by the Covid Virus was nothing that any of us anticipated.  We have been so fortunate to have had the opportunity to go on with our season and also having the administrative and financial  support from the Doherty Administration to make it through our entire season.  Thank you for the wonderful support from our office staff ( Nancy Oliver, Christina Montoya, Deb Madison and Stephanie Leasure (Doherty Athletic Director). Thank you to Dana Stinson for finding sponsorship for our shirts and being our resident photographer.  The fact that we were not able to have a fundraiser this year made providing balls and outfitting the entire team for the entire season impossible.  Lastly, I am so thankful for our amazing coaching staff.  Participating in the number of tournaments, in the condensed season, could not have been accomplished without the support of ALL of our coaches.  Thank you to Coaches Luis Garcia, Sue Keller, Diane Palmer, and our computer genius and everything else Graham Smith!!!!!!  I am so grateful to all of you!  Our players’ improvement and our final rankings indicate how much influence you had on them!!!!!

A state requirement from CHSAA for the 2019-2020 school year states that all new Doherty student-athletes must create an account through arbiterathlete.com  in order to participate in interscholastic sports.

Your athlete can create an account in one of two ways:

1)        Go to www.arbiterathlete.com and create a student account—you will enter your name, gender, DOB, graduation year, sport, and school.

2)        Text S41421 to 69274. On your phone, you will be sent a link on which to click that will automatically take you to the correct online location.

**Parents, you do not need to create an arbiter account unless your student is a transfer student to Doherty High School. If your student-athlete is a transfer, please follow directions in number 1 to create a parent account.

Schedule Aug. 31 thru Sept. 3

Good morning everyone!!!

Before I give you the schedule for the week, I want to thank you all for your EXTREME patience with our problems with our entry to Peterson AFB.  I have contacted every golf course in the Colorado Springs area to try to find a more accessible location and there are NO openings anywhere!!! So, we have no choice but to continue to try to make things better!  We have been told that they now have our complete list (by the way, this list was given to all the necessary people two and one-half weeks ago).  When Graham and I leave to go to the gate to pick up stranded players, it takes us away from coaching our golfers.  If any of you would be able to pick up even one player, it would help us greatly.  Maybe this will just be solved Monday when we get to Peterson!!!!  Am I a dreamer??? By the way, have I told you all how much I appreciate you ALL!!!????

This weeks’ schedule has one less tournament than we have had for the last two weeks.  With two tournaments that require the top four players out of the three tournaments, several players will only practice this week.  We try to rotate the players for the JV based on scores from the previous tournaments.  This week has only one JV tournament.

Monday, August 31st:  Varsity (top four), Country Club of Colorado, Start Time 8:00 AM, Tee Times, Excused All Day.  We will go off of #10 at 8:27.  Be at the country club at 7:30 AM.  125 Clubhouse Dr.

Host: Cheyenne Mtn

Jackson Theiler

Nick Stinson

Ryan Maccagnan

Padraig O’Donnell

Practice for everyone except the top four players who are already playing in the above tournament will begin at 3:30 PM.

Coach Smith will be there for practice.

Tuesday, Sept. 1st   Practice @ Peterson AFB, practice ends for pick-up at 5:45, EVERYONE!!!

Wednesday, Sept. 2nd, 2:00 PM Palmer Ridge Golf Tournament start time at King’s Deer, 40 minutes before Tee time which has not yet been published .  Please be at King’s Deer by 2:15 for a tee time around 2:45.  I will call and let you know when the coach posts the tee times.

Revised Schedule for August 17 - 20

Hi everyone, I am resending this entry that I sent out this morning just in case you did not have an opportunity to read it.  Tomorrow is freshman registration, pictures and I’m not sure what else they have planned for them.  I felt that it would be plenty to take care of without having to run to Peterson AFB for probably a very short time.  We are going to try to play eighteen holes beginning at 8:30 for those not registering!!

Monday, August 17th practice at Peterson AFB at the regular time 8:00 AM.  There will be No freshmen at practice from the beginning of the alphabet letters A through M due to registration!!!   The remainder of the team will play 18 holes!!  There is only one freshman that will not register, Jack Zabukover, that will register on Tuesday and we will see him on Monday for practice.

This is going to be a very busy week!!!!! Keep this schedule VERY close so you know what is going on.  With freshman orientation and registration, two days are totally without freshman in the morning.  We have seven freshmen on our roster and this does make setting up line-ups a bit more difficult.  The other day that does affect our golfers is the welcome to Doherty that is done by Link Crew on Thursday. If you are enrolled in one of the charter schools, share your schedules with me and we will schedule for tournaments around your academic schedule.

The following is this week’s schedule:

There will be No practice on Tuesday because of the two teams playing at Spring Valley!!

Tuesday, August 18th, Spring Valley Golf Course, Elizabeth, Colorado

Bus leaves Doherty High School at 6:45 AM from the West parking lot

Bring snacks and a sandwich just in case their snack bar is not open.

Varsity will play from the Blue Tees for 18 holes and the JV will play from the White tees for 9 holes

If your parents are going, you may come home with them.  No one else may ride home with them.  The line-up for this tournament is as follows:

18 holes

Jackson Theiler

Nick Stinson

Padraig O’Donnell

Ryan Maccagnan

Playing JV for the Spartans will be;

Brett Boone

Brody Garcia  (continued)

Brady Seay

Evan Isensee

This week is the most difficult week that I have ever had to schedule our first meets.  There are four factors that I have had to take into consideration.  One, we have to work around registration, Two, not all of our players are D11 students with a variety of different schedules.  Three, I have to limit our top players to 198 holes for the season, and four, a day out for Link Crew for all freshmen.

Wednesday, there will be practice at the regular time for everyone. (8:00) except for potentially 4 golfers to go to a 9 hole at Falcon.  I have been waiting all weekend to hear from Falcon High School Coaches.  I will notify those four golfers one way or another!!!

   Bring plenty of water

Thursday, August 20th, we will play in Canon City at Four Mile.  Please be there at 7:45 for warm-up. Another reminder – BRING PLENTY OF WATER!!!!!!

Jeth Fogg

Brody Garcia

Evan Isensee

Joe Spartz

These are interesting tournaments against players that we seldom get to see.  HAVE FUN!!!!!

Depending when Mr. Smith comes back, we will talk about practice on Thursday.  I will send out a note on Dohertyathletics .org.

Hi again,

This week is the most difficult week that I have ever had to schedule!! On Monday, we will be playing 2 foursomes at the Doherty Invitational at The Colorado Springs Country Club, 3333 Templeton Gap Road.  You MUST be in the parking lot by 7:00 AM on Monday to have your temperature checked.  You will be playing with your teammates.  You all need to bring your cell phone to record your scores on the CHSAA website or the Iwannamaker website and also on your individual score card.  If you have a backup battery, please bring it.  For those of you that played last year, you have the royal blue shirt with black stripes.  Please wear it.  For those without a blue shirt, I will bring one.  You must wear black long pants or shorts.  Black will be the required color all season.  We will play ready golf so go straight to your ball and hit unless someone is in front of you.  Remember that every time you swing at the ball, it counts as a stroke.  Confirm your scores with your counting partner.  If you have questions about a ruling, ask one of the coaches with your group.  We are playing double par so pick up the ball after you have double pared a hole.  You may lift, clean, and place in a sand trap.  Your coach will rake the trap.  Again, play ready golf.  Total your scores and turn them in to your coaches at the end of your round.

Welcome to 2020 Doherty Spartan Golf Season

WELCOME TO THE 2020 DOHERTY SPARTAN GOLF SEASON!!!!!!!

Welcome back to our current and future Spartan Golfers and their families!!! After the disappointing ending to the 2019-2020 school year, I am so anxious for our season to begin.  We currently have 8 returning players from the 2019 season and at least 5 brand new members!!!  Our coaches are delighted with the improvement made by last year’s golfers and excited to see our new players challenge to fill open positions.  We welcome any new players that have not signed up and I would like to have the golfer’s name, grade level, cell-phone number and e-mail address.  Please e-mail your parent’s names, cell-phone numbers, and e-mail addresses as well.  Please send this information to:

We have a new practice facility this year!!!  We have permission to practice at Peterson Air Force Base.  I would suggest that we set up carpools so that your trips to Peterson AFB will be kept to a minimum.  We will all enter through the West Gate ONLY!!  Parents, I suggest that you plan to pick up the boys In the East parking lot at Doherty.  It takes forever to get out of the West lot.  I do need to compile a complete list of parents and players that will be driving into the West Gate to attend practice or drop off their golfers. This list must include the following information for every driver:

Driver’s name as it appears on the license

State of Issue

Birthdate

We must also submit a list of all of our players names (drivers or non-drivers).

Any student caught speeding will lose their golfing privileges on Peterson AFB.

We will be practicing every week on Monday through Thursday and occasionally on Fridays when there is not a Football game.  The dress for practices will be COLLARED SHIRTS, NO JEANS, slacks or shorts are fine.

You all must follow the rules of golf, including absolutely NO PROFANITY!!!!

Boy's Varsity Golf Team Change in registration

Good morning all Boy's Golf parents and Golfers!!!!

IMPORTANT!!!  I just called Stephanie Leasure to find out why no one is at school to accept sports registrations!!!!  She informed me that Nancy was not permitted to get into the school to set up to receive registrations for sports yet!   They have backed up registrations to next Monday, July 27th!!!  Sorry, no one notified the coaches about the change!!
