Boys Varsity Golf
Players and parents,
As soon as the 2016 Season becomes "live" on dohertyathletics.org, I will begin posting information to the current season. In the meantime, here is some initial information regarding tryouts for the 2016 season.
All necessary paperwork and fees due in the business office by 11:00 A.M., August 8, 2016.
No one will be permitted to try out unless all paperwork and receipts are turned in to Coach Rogers.
Try-outs and practice facility is Springs Ranch Golf Club (3525 Tutt Blvd).
Parent and athlete meeting at 11:00 A.M.,August 8th. Try-outs begin immediately following meeting at Springs Ranch Golf Club.
Boy's must provide their own clubs (including golf balls and other necessary equipment). No riding or pull carts are permitted unless medical complications necessitate the use of a pull-cart.
I recommend that you play Springs Ranch this summer to familiarize yourself with the course before try-outs.
The boys will play four rounds of 18 holes (Monday, Aug. 8th through Thursday, Aug. 11th).
THE PIKES PEAK JR. CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL BE HELD THIS SUMMER AT THE CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN RESORT (ALSO CALLED THE COUNTRY CLUB OF COLORADO). We will post the dates for the tournament as soon as they are determined.I recommend that you all play in this tournament. You must sign up for this tournament in advance. Entry forms will be available in mid-July at the tournament site.
For those of you that play in this tournament, you may use this score for one of your four counting scores for try-outs. This allows you to throw out one of your scores from the rounds at Springs Ranch. If you do not play in the Jr. Championships you must count all four rounds for your total try-out score.
At a minimum, the top fourteen boys will make the team and compete for Doherty High School.
My name is Cheri Rogers and I have the privilege of being your head coach. If you or your parents have questions please feel free to call me at my home anytime (481-4057) or cell phone (440-4812). If there is no answer, please leave a message and I will return your call.
During the summer before tryouts, green fees and practice balls on the driving range will be charged by Springs Ranch. Once the team is chosen, those boys that have been selected will no longer pay green fees or for practice balls during team practice.
It is strongly recommended that you spend time playing this summer. Previous golf experience on the course is a necessity.
I look forward to meeting all of our new future team members and of course those of you returning for another great year of Doherty Golf.
Please let me hear from you with any questions.
Hi golfers and parents, just a reminder that we have our end of season banquet at Bean Bandit next Monday, October 12 at 6 pm. The cost is $9 per person (yes, every family member AND golfer needs to pay for their meals) but the $9 needs to be paid in advance to the business office.by this Thursday, October 8 before 3:30pm. They accept cash or credit cards(for a small fee). Please contact Coach Rogers if you have any questions, or feel free to text me at 719-651-1306.
Also, if anybody has any pictures that you can provide of your golfers from this season, that would be appreciated.. Please contact Avery Henderson's mom ASAP.

A huge thank you from all of the coaches to Ryan Pierce and his wonderful Mom and Avery Henderson and his wonderful Mom for working at the concession stand at the Doherty football game!!!!! You all are wonderful!
The schedule above does not include practices for the next week and one-half. Those seniors not playing in one of the above tournaments, you are excused from the remaining practices and can concentrate on your missing assignments and tests. If you are going out for Hockey go to practice – sorry no rest between seasons. This has been a great season and we will celebrate at the banquet on October 12th at the Bean Bandit!! You will receive more information from Mrs. Henderson about the details of the banquet.
There will be practice for those playing in the remaining tournaments and any freshman, sophomore and juniors that wish to join us for practice are very welcome. The practice schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, September 22, practice at 3:30
Thursday, September 24, practice at 3:30
Monday, September 28, practice at 3:30
The schedule for the top four players will be posted after the Regionals are completed and we hopefully, will have four players competing in the State Championships in Fort Collin on October, 5th and 6th!!!!
Thank you all for the wonderful season and all of your wonderful support. Congratulations to our seniors, it will never be the same without you!!!!!
The phone list that was given to Mrs. Henderson (Avery's Mom) apparently had some of the boys telephone numbers rather than the parents telephone information. If you did not get a message from Mrs. Henderson, please contact her at 522-3998. She has very kindly agreed to contact parents with important information for the Boy's Golf Team. Thank you for contacting her.
Thank you for your wonderful young men, Cheri!!
I hope that you all have had a wonderful, relaxing weekend!! Many of you will be completing our golf season this week. First of all, we will be meeting with the yearbook staff to do some candid photos on the course. Please remember to wear your team shirt and either black shorts or long black pants. We will have our Apree photos taken at 4:30. They will take a team picture followed by individual pictures of all team members. Parents, I will send you the directions from Apree about ordering individual and team pictures. They will be ready for you the night of the banquet (October 11th at the Bean Bandit. We will get more information to you about the banquet. You will also receive some information from Mr. and Mrs. Henderson about the date that we have to cover at the Doherty Football games.
Monday, Pictures and some hitting on the range – entire team.
Here is the schedule for September 14th through September 17th.
Tuesday, September 15th arriving at Shining Mountain by 8:00 (meet starting at 9:00) 18 hole tournament.
Tuesday, practice for everyone excluding the four above players.
Wednesday, September 16th arriving at Kissing Camels at 2:30, being excused at 1:30 for the remainder of the day (9 hole tournament).
Wednesday, September 16th at Cherokee Ridge, being excused at 2:00 for the remainder of the day (9 hole)
Wednesday, practice for those not playing in tournaments today.
Thursday, practice for the eight players still participating after Wednesday. Players 5 – 8 will be determined as explained below.
There will be one more tournament for the second four golfers who will play at the Air Force Academy for the TCA Scramble. This foursome will be determined by their 18 hole averages after this week’s tournament.
The top four players will participate in the Regional Golf Tournament at the Lone Tree Country Club on September 21st. More information will be given later on this week. The total of all 18 hole tournaments was divided by the number of 18 hole tournaments played to determine their average in competitions for the season. The averages were released by I Wanamaker and we have also totaled all of the averages for each player. This was extremely close for three of our five players. I do wish that there was a way that all five golfers could participate in the Regionals. Unfortunately, this is not possible. We included only the 18 hole tournament scores from the season.
Congratulations to the following golfers:
Have a wonderful week. Coach Rogers

Good morning everyone!

First of all I have a very important message for four of our players. Please go to my office to pick up the information for REQUIRED STUDY TABLES. Many of these assignments may have been a contract for the class. Please go to school on Monday and hand in any missing papers so that you are eligible for this week’s tournaments. This is the second time that I am trying to send this message so please bear with me because I am breaking it into two parts to make sure that it is being sent and not lost in cyber space somewhere. I have not seen our shirts yet so until they come in please wear khaki or black shorts or pants and a collared Doherty shirt if you have one, if not a good looking collared shirt. Please, please turn in your sponsorship donations as quickly as possible to enable me to order your items for those collecting $500. Lets try Day 1 and see if this sends:

I will be asking those not playing to be at the Colorado Springs Country Club to assist with scoring. We will be playing 8 individuals. Again congratulations to the list of very talented young men. Many of you have improved a great deal since last year and I am really excited for even more improvement during the season. If you have any conflicts about Monday just let me know by text, e-mail or phone!!
Just a quick reminder to all. We do not practice on Fridays!! This is the biggest day for Springs Ranch as far as public play. Our only days to report for practice are on Monday through Thursday. Look for roster and next weeks schedule tomorrow.
Today was truly a wet, soggy day. Tomorrow (Tuesday) we will meet at Springs Ranch with a 10:30 warm-up and hopefully we will have more luck completing 18 holes. We will start a new round from hole #1. If I feel that our practice is in jeopardy due to current rainfall, I will send out a text message and news for the team by 9:30. I will let you know at that time if we are going to attempt to practice on Tuesday or not and at what time. If it is not raining please report for practice(tryouts).
I had an opportunity to watch a few of you after the parent meeting but I did see all of the scores that you had for a very few holes. I am really excited about this year's team and our freshman and new upper classmen are a welcome surprise!!
